Today, luggage scales are a must for any frequent flyer. Many airlines are starting to charge heavy fees for overweight suitcases, to help save on fuel costs. Worst of all, without scale, there is no real way to know how much your bag weighs until your luggage is at the airport.

By then it is pretty much too late to do anything about it, so you pretty much have to suck it up and pay the over limit fees. This is why I invested in a scale and now I know exactly how much my suitcases each weigh. I can’t tell you how many times this has saved me from yet another fee. If you are looking for a portable luggage scale, here are a few I would recommend:

Ergonomic Luggage Scale (Taylor) – this scale can measure in either lbs or kgs. It has an easy to read LCD screen and can weigh luggage all the way up to 88 lbs. It comes with a one-year warranty and costs about $20.

Blanzza Digital Luggage Scale (Lewis N. Clark) – can weigh up to 100 lbs and has a really convenient auto shut off feature. Cost – $29

TraveLite Luggage Scale – this also weighs up to 100 lbs and has an easy weight feature that will light up if your suitcase is over 50 lbs. It comes with a 5 year guarantee and costs $24.

All three of these suitcase scales received outstanding reviews and will easily pay for themselves the first time they detect your bag is over the limit.
