Quality leather luggage
Finding quality leather luggage is more than a bit tricky. There is a big difference between quality luggage and the low-grade leather luggage. You will want to keep in mind the various types of leather on the market, and know which kinds signify quality and which don’t.
Top Grain
This is the softest part of the cow’s hide and is almost impossible to tear. Any luggage made from this material is going to cost you top dollar. Many of the best designer suitcases are made from top grain leather.
Suede
This type of leather is usually not as durable as top grain since it is made from thinner leather. There are many types of synthetic suede on the market, so be aware.
Bonded Leather
Suitcases made from this kind of leather are considered of much lower quality, since the leather has to be bonded together from smaller pieces. Basically, this is the leather that is left over from the higher quality pieces. This is why luggage made from bonded leather can be bought much cheaper.
Artificial Leather
Luggage made from this material is usually quite cheap, because the material is man made. Such material as plastic, rubber and other epoxies are used to create this imitation leather. Many people can’t tell the difference between real leather and artificial, but the difference in quality and durability is unmistakable.
Many designers have their own line of luxury leather luggage, but you can expect to pay a couple thousand dollars for a single piece. However, if that isn’t within your budget, you can find quality leather luggage for around $300-900, depending on the manufacturer and the grade of the leather.
